About the Instructor
Firas Al-Atraqchi is a Canadian journalist and editor who has been covering the Middle East and North America since 1992. Raised in different capitals in Europe, North America and the Middle East, he is very much a product of internationalism, bridging both eastern and western value systems. Al-Atraqchi is an associate professor of practice and chair of AUC’s Department of Journalism and Mass Communication.

Course Description
Journalism and communications can have a significant impact on people’s lives and how they interpret the world they live in. This field is the art of providing the right information to the right audience via the right medium, and hence help the world gain a better understanding of their surroundings. Get a 360-degree understanding of how journalism and communications industries operate, addressing three areas of study, each representing a full major at AUC: multimedia journalism, communication media arts, and integrated marketing communications. Engage in an exciting learning experience, where you will explore the different media used in today’s modern world, develop writing skills, learn the art of storytelling, understand ethics, get an introduction to advertising, learn the power of visual communication and develop basic photography skills. Join us in learning everything you need to know about the industry, to help you set off on the right career path.

Students may only enroll in one College Bound: AUC course per summer
Requirements

Submit an English writing sample (at least 750 words): essay or reflection, except for the Arabic course(s), no essay required

Submit a copy of your report card for the past two years of school

Submit a recommendation letter from a high-school teacher within the past academic year. The teacher must mention the student’s capacity for academic study in English
