The American University in Cairo Website Privacy Statement

Introduction

This statement which applies to www.aucegypt.edu explains what information we collect from users of our platforms (website and mobile application), including information that may be used to personally identify you (“Personal Information”) and how we use them. By using AUC’s website and mobile application, you are agreeing to our collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Statement. The terms (“we”, “us”, “our” and “AUC”) each is used to refer to The American University in Cairo.

This Statement applies to any user or visitor to any of AUC platforms.

AUC reserves the right to modify this statement at any time and users should periodically check our website, including this privacy page, for updates on this Privacy Statement.

Types of information we collect

AUC collects Personal Information about you where we have lawful bases. Lawful bases include consent (where you have given consent) and through a number of forms available on the website, including but not limited to; information that you give us when you create an account, contact us, or otherwise access or use our online platforms, any information you voluntarily submit to us, and information regarding how you use the website. Specifically, the foregoing includes: Your internet protocol address (i.e., IP address) and browser type, the geographical area from where you are accessing AUC’s website and your responses to surveys that we may ask to complete for research purposes or to help direct our activities. Browser and device information and information collected through technologies such as cookies, request of information for new users or prospective new users which includes your name, email, telephone number; subscription to our newsletters for all website users.

We also collect data of website visitors through Google Analytics to get information about website traffic and measurements.

AUC website may contain links to external websites that are not owned or controlled by the AUC. AUC is not and will not be held responsible for the privacy practices or the content of such websites.

How we use this information

Our use of the information collected includes but is not limited to:

  • Delivering and improving the overall user experience and taking sound marketing decisions on the website
  • Creating better user experience for website users
  • Linking or combining user information with other Personal Information.
  • Protecting, investigating, and deterring against fraudulent, unauthorized, or illegal activity
  • Responding to your comments and questions and provide requested information.

Sharing of Personal Information?

AUC does not rent, sell, or share your Personal Information with other people or non-affiliated third parties for commercial reasons except to provide any service you have requested or authorized.

To help us do our work, we may provide access to some of your Personal Information to vendors for website and emails management third parties for the purpose of enhancing such services

AUC will also share Personal Information with third parties, organizations or individuals outside of AUC if we have a good-faith belief that access, use, preservation, or disclosure of your Personal Information is reasonably necessary to detect or protect against fraud or security issues, enforce our terms of use, meet any enforceable government request, defend against legal claims, or protect against violating our legal rights or safety. All information collected through Google Analytics and IPs information remains anonymous.

How Do We Use Tracking Technologies?

AUC takes reasonable steps to protect your Personal Information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, misuse, or destruction. The safety and security of your Personal Information also depends on you, if you choose to share any Personal Information on AUC’s pages on social media, this information can be used by others and AUC will not be held responsible for such information publicly shared.
