The American University in Cairo’s Board of Trustees voted unanimously to renew President Francis Ricciardone for a second four-year term, effective July 1, 2020. At its May board meeting in New York, the Board commended President Ricciardone for his leadership of the institution.

Undergraduate Commencement: Students Celebrate Milestone, Al Ghurair Receives Honorary Degree

Yesterday’s undergraduate commencement ceremony saw the graduation of a total of 634 students, of whom 108 were distinguished as cum laude, 114 as magna cum laude, and 130 as summa cum laude. His Excellency Abdul Aziz Al Ghurair, CEO of Mashreq Group and chairman of the board of trustees of the Abdulla Al Ghurair Foundation for Education, received an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from AUC in recognition of his leadership and philanthropic contributions.

AUC's Employability, Career Development Centers Project Celebrates Years of Service

After five years of activity, AUC’s Employability and Career Development Centers (ECDC) project is celebrating its widespread impact.Through the project, AUC’s Career Center acted as a model as a model for the three centers established at Ain Shams and Suez Canal universities. The centers have served more than 40,000 students at these universities, boasting an employment rate of 85 percent among beneficiaries over the project’s lifespan. In total, these universities now house 14 certified Career Development Facilitators as part of the ECDC program.

Board of Trustees Holds Final Meeting of the Year in Cairo

AUC’s Board of Trustees met in Cairo for its third and final meeting of the fiscal year. On the packed agenda were items ranging from centennial planning, digital innovation and academic affairs to finance, governance and reimagining the student experience. AUC Community Rises to the Challenge, Gives Back to AUC

Throughout the year, students, faculty and staff donated $34,161 to AUC, exceeding the $30,000 President's Challenge Fund.President Francis J. Ricciardone and Dr. Marie Ricciardone announced in October 2016 during the presidential inauguration the launch of the President’s Challenge Fund as a way to build a culture of giving on campus. The fund matches each dollar donated from a student, faculty or staff member. While the original ceiling on the fund was set at $30,000, it was expanded to cover the additional contributions of the AUC community.

Awards Ceremony Honors Distinguished Student, Alumni Athletes

In this year’s annual athletics awards ceremony, AUC acknowledged and honored student and alumni athletes for their numerous sporting achievements throughout the past academic year.A total of 116 students were recognized at the ceremony, including the five students and two alumni who participated in the Rio 2016 Olympics, as well as student Nouran Gohar, the 2015 and 2016 World Junior Squash Champion.

Midterm Review of AUC's Strategic Plan: All You Need to Know

With its centennial approaching, AUC launched a five-year strategic plan outlining the University’s priorities from 2014 to its 100th anniversary in 2019. Today, the plan is undergoing a midterm review to reconsider and refine it, as well as identify the progress to be made.“The strategic plan as it stands lacks key performance indicators (KPIs),” explained Sherif Kamel, vice president for information management. “The strategic plan report includes what we want to do, where we stand and where we want to be, but does not include how exactly we would get there.”
