Key Assessment Areas
The Comprehensive Program Review is a cyclical process designed to ensure that each degree program at AUC undergoes a thorough evaluation of quality, potential, and sustainability. The purpose of this review process is to enhance academic quality and student experience, while ensuring resources are used efficiently and allocated to support AUC’s mission and strategic priorities. Between Spring 2020 and Fall 2024, the Office of the Associate Provost for Assessment and Accreditation (AP-AA) completed comprehensive reviews of all AUC academic programs.
Following the review process each department developed an action plan to address the recommendations identified. In addition to the individual departmental reports issued at the conclusion of each review, the AP-AA office prepares a comprehensive end-of-cycle report for each school. This report provides an integrated overview of the evaluation of all degree programs within the school, synthesizes key findings and priority areas for improvement, and assesses the quality and feasibility of action plans developed to address identified gaps. The program review process generates in-depth communication between the academic departments and the University administration, helps departments identify areas of strength and opportunities for improvement in their academic programs and supports these programs in developing clearer plans on what should be maintained, enhanced, transformed, or phased out. The second comprehensive program review cycle commenced in Spring 2026 following the same sequence of programs reviewed six years earlier.

What is Assessment of Program Learning Outcomes?
Assessment of Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs) is a continuous process of gathering, evaluating and communicating information at the program level to enhance the quality and depth of student learning. Assessment of PLOs provides evidence of how well each academic program at AUC meets its objectives, helps identify areas where improvement is needed and provides useful information to help guide decision-making and resource allocation.
Consistent with the program review cycle, all programs are required to develop a new program learning outcomes plan upon completion of their comprehensive program review with the Office of Associate Provost for Assessment and Accreditation (AP-AA). Programs are expected to use data derived from their annual assessment of PLOs report and their comprehensive program review report to inform the development of the new PLOs plan.
Educational Objectives and Learning Outcomes
All academic programs at AUC are expected to have clearly defined program educational objectives and learning outcomes. The educational objectives of an academic program are broad statements that describe the career and professional accomplishments which the program is preparing its graduates to achieve a few years after graduation while the learning outcomes of a program are measurable statements that describe what students are expected to know and be able to do by the time of graduation. To ensure ongoing relevance and alignment with disciplinary standards and institutional goals, these educational objectives and learning outcomes are regularly reviewed and updated by academic departments and schools as part of AUC’s assessment and comprehensive program review processes. This continuous assessment ensures that all programs remain responsive to evolving educational priorities and professional expectations.
Assessment of Program Learning Outcomes Process
The AUC assessment of PLOs process requires all academic programs to submit annual reports on the achievement of learning outcomes. These reports must include reflection on the results achieved, an evaluation of the extent to which intended outcomes are being met, and a clear explanation of how findings will be used to inform improvement efforts and close the assessment loop. AP-AA assessment team conducts gap analyses and quality reviews annually to ensure the effectiveness of the assessment process.
All programs enter their data periodically on the University’s planning and assessment software compliance assist, which serves as the repository for all assessment plans and reports.

End-of-Term Evaluation of School Deans
AUC Provost conducts an annual review of the administrative performance of deans with the goal of ensuring that school/area strategies are aligned to University priorities and are carried out effectively. This annual review process allows the Provost to provide feedback to help deans improve their performance. The performance of deans is also subject to comprehensive review during the penultimate year of each dean’s term. The review assesses the individual professional contributions of the dean, the strengths and areas of opportunity of her/his performance as a leader and as an administrator and provides the opportunity for faculty and other constituencies to give constructive input. It also provides data to the Provost to decide whether to continue the dean’s appointment after completing the review. Comprehensive reviews are overseen by the associate provost for assessment and accreditation.
As per the review guidelines, the Provost is responsible for appointing an ad-hoc review committee and delivering the formal charge to the committee. The AP-AA oversees the process for comprehensive reappointment reviews for deans. The dean’s self-evaluation report, which reflects accomplishments, goals, opportunities, and challenges, is an important component of the review process. The dean’s review process provides the opportunity for faculty and other constituencies to give constructive input and provide data through different surveys overseen by the AP-AA Office.
End-of-Term Evaluation of Department Chairs
AUC conducts regular evaluations of department chairs to ensure effective leadership and accountability. In the fall semester of the final year of a chair’s three-year contract faculty provide confidential feedback through a survey managed by the APAA-Office. The dean appoints a review committee of at least three members, including at least one from another department, to evaluate the chair using the survey results, the chair’s self-evaluation report and other relevant information. The committee submits a written report with findings and recommendations to the dean, who shares a summary with the chair for response within five working days. The dean then submits the committee report, the summary, and the chair’s response (if any) to the Provost by the end of the fall semester. The AP-AA oversees the process for comprehensive reviews for department chairs, as well as the reappointment or selection of new chairs.
To foster a stronger culture of academic assessment, the chair evaluation form has been revised to include a dedicated academic assessment dimension comprising four distinct statements. The updated structure now places greater emphasis on assessment leadership, planning, implementation, and the use of results for continuous program enhancement, reinforcing AUC’s institutional commitment to evidence-based academic quality and improvement.

In accordance with the AUC Faculty Handbook, every full-time faculty member must complete an Annual Faculty Report (AFR) documenting their activities in three core areas:
Teaching
Research, Professional, and Creative Endeavors
Services
To facilitate this process, AUC utilizes E-Repertoire, a platform supported by Watermark- Faculty Success and customized to meet AUC’s needs. This system helps faculty members collect, organize, and document their teaching, research and service activities. It also maintains comprehensive historical faculty data, and supports both personal and institutional reporting, including the AFR, faculty research productivity, specific accreditation reporting purposes (e.g., AACSB and ABET), among other customized reporting requirements. The AP-AA Office oversees the faculty annual evaluation process and manages the administration of the E-Repertoire system. For AFR deadlines, E-Repertoire login instructions and AFR guidelines, refer to the E-Repertoire webpage.
