Teaching Effectiveness Framework
Prioritizing teaching excellence is one of the key strategic directions recommended by AUC’s recent Quality of Education Task Force (2025). Towards this goal, CLT will start in Spring 2026 adopting the Teaching Effectiveness Framework (TEF) which is adapted from Colorado State University Institute for Learning and Teaching and comprises seven domains of evidence-based teaching practices.
The role of this framework is to support the professional development of faculty by identifying priority areas that improve teaching effectiveness across disciplines and class sizes, including: classroom climate, inclusive teaching practices, instructional strategies for active learning, designing for student motivation, and feedback and assessment.
Starting Spring 2026, we are launching an institution-wide invitation for all faculty to enhance their teaching practice by adopting at least one domain of the TEF each academic year, and following this recommended process:
- Choose a domain of interest, an area you would like to learn more about.
- Participate in a workshop related to this domain to dig deeper into concrete applications of evidence-based practices.
- Building on the workshop, set a goal for a specific change to your teaching. CLT can provide consultations to support with goal setting.
- Apply the change for at least one semester, reflect on the process and outcomes, and assess its impact on student learning and engagement. CLT can support you in the assessment process. Your reflections and evidence can also be used to enhance your teaching portfolio.
Go the extra mile and submit your reflections to CLT to publish in a New Chalk Talk newsletter.
First Steps
- You are invited to register for the TEF launch event shown below.
- Choose a domain of interest and register in the corresponding workshop from the workshop series list below.
