This year, the symposium explores how building resilience through actors, capacities, and processes is vital to convert knowledge into action and bring about positive change across the MENA region.
Across the globe, societies are navigating a period of rapid transformation marked by technological disruption and geopolitical uncertainty. These dynamics are particularly significant in the MENA region, where complex and interconnected challenges require innovative and evidence-based responses. The 2026 symposium hence explores how building resilience through actors, capacities and processes is vital to convert knowledge into action and bring about positive change in the MENA region at large.
Themes
The symposium will be organized around two overarching thematic areas that reflect key regional challenges while emphasizing the importance of accessible and locally grounded knowledge production over the following themes:
1.Turning Evidence into Action
Under this overarching aim, works accepted should tackle any of the following thematic areas:
AI, Digital Futures, and Societal Change
Challenges and opportunities of digital disruptions and AI for the social, economic, and policy spheres.
Resources and Resilience
Examining how effective resource management and resilient systems can support long-term stability and development.
Poverty, Development and Economic Prosperity
Insights into evidence-based paths to economic prosperity and development.
Conflict, Governance and Human Security
Pathways to peacebuilding, accountable governance and long-term stability amid unrest.
2.Knowledge Production, Policy and the Pipeline to Action
Under this overarching aim, works accepted should tackle any of the following thematic areas:
Actors of Change
Roles of youth, civil society, governments, institutions etc.. in producing accessible knowledge and turning it into policy/impact.
Processes for Impact
Methodologies and pathways to holistic knowledge production and bridging research to action across civil society, communities, and industry.
Rethinking Policy and Evidence
New models and alternative approaches for positive impact amid turbulence.
