Frequently Asked Questions
The purpose of this fund is to support our registered degree-seeking undergraduate and graduate students who pay in Egyptian pounds and have an outstanding balance as of March 6, 2024 and accordingly were subject to the post-devaluation higher exchange rate. This fund allows AUC to partially dilute the effects of the devaluation on student tuition by offsetting some of the increase.
Registered degree-seeking undergraduate and graduate students who pay in Egyptian pounds and have an outstanding balance as of March 6, 2024 are eligible for consideration.
The following will be considered automatically if they have outstanding balances:
- Students admitted before fall 2023 who are currently receiving financial aid/one-time financial assistance
The following are eligible if they have outstanding balances and they must submit an application:
- Students admitted before fall 2023 who are not currently receiving financial aid/one-time financial assistance
- Students admitted before fall 2023 who received emergency aid in fall 2022 and/or spring 2023 and are not currently receiving financial aid/one-time financial assistance
- Students admitted before fall 2023 who are on partial scholarships (donor-funded)/partial fellowships
- Students admitted in fall 2023 and spring 2024 who are on partial scholarships whether on the excellence scholarships program, donor-funded scholarships/partial fellowships
- Students admitted in fall 2023 and spring 2024 who received a one-time award
- Students who do not receive any type of assistance during spring 2024
The fund is designated to partially, and in some cases fully, cover the Egyptian pound difference in outstanding balances that resulted from the recent devaluation of the Egyptian pound.
The amount awarded will vary from one student to another and will be (1) dependent on a financial need assessment (i.e. higher coverage will be applied for greater, documented financial need) and (2) proportionate to the outstanding balance. Students are expected and required to pay any remaining amounts.
Students who are eligible must submit an application through Banner Self-Service using their AUC credentials. The deadline is Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at 11:59 pm. Cairo Local Time. Be sure to submit all required financial documents and to click SUBMIT when you have completed the application.
All applications undergo a thorough review. However, if you still have significant concerns about the amount awarded, you can send an appeal to finschol@aucegypt.edu with the subject “Appeal: Student Name – Student ID”. Appeals will be reviewed and you may be asked to submit additional documentation. An appeal may be considered based on newly submitted documents.
The University is assessing and calibrating mechanisms to determine how to support our community in the next academic year.
