AUC strives to ensure the application of Principles, regulations and standards of good practice that ensure high-quality research. This involves enhancing ethical and scientific quality, promoting good practice, reducing adverse incidents, and preventing poor performance and misconduct.

The institutional review board (IRB) approves all research involving collection of data from human participants, whereas the University Research Board (URB) encourages and supports quality research, innovation, and creative endeavors across all disciplines in The American University in Cairo (AUC).
