AUC, Attijariwafa bank Egypt Transform Traditional Classroom into an Active Learning Space
The American University in Cairo and Attijariwafa bank Egypt have collaborated to transform a traditional classroom into an active learning space designed to support inclusive teaching and engaged learning. The newly named Attijariwafa bank Egypt Classroom is a key component of AUC’s comprehensive Learning Spaces Strategic Plan, which has revamped 14 traditional classrooms into cutting-edge environments, ultimately enhancing the student learning experience across disciplines. With 29 active, flexible and experimental learning spaces currently available, AUC has empowered over 4,000 students and supported more than 270 faculty members through specialized pedagogical and technical training. These modern classrooms feature state-of-the-art technology and adaptable seating arrangements that boost collaboration and engagement. Importantly, they include accessibility features that support students with disabilities and special learning requirements.
The partnership agreement was signed by AUC President Ahmad Dallal and Attijariwafa bank Egypt Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Mouawia Essekelli at a ceremony attended by senior leaders from both institutions.
Dallal said, “Attijariwafa bank Egypt’s generous gift supports our plan to build spaces that foster collaboration, innovation and student engagement across all disciplines.”
Dallal also emphasized that AUC and Attijariwafa bank Egypt’s relationship, which spans decades, is built on a shared belief in transforming lives through education. Their scholarship programs at AUC opened doors for exceptional students, including those with disabilities and financial need.
At the signing ceremony, Essekelli said, “Our collaboration with AUC is not new; it is rooted in years of meaningful programs in human capital development. Attijariwafa bank Egypt has long seen AUC as more than just an educational institution; we see it as a partner that has always shared the same set of principles and vision.”
Essekelli added, “This agreement is a natural continuation of this cherished and longstanding relationship. It reflects both entities’ belief that access to quality education in an inclusive and empowering environment is fundamental to achieving social, sustainable and economic growth. We are proud to contribute to a learning space that facilitates the mission of inclusive and active learning by ensuring that every student, regardless of their learning needs, has equal access to quality and inclusive education.”
Attijariwafa bank Egypt has a long-standing commitment to supporting AUC students. In 2019, the bank established the Attijariwafa bank Public School Scholarship for Students with Disabilities, which supports public school graduates with physical or learning disabilities who demonstrate exceptional academic achievement and leadership. Additionally, since 1987, Attijariwafa bank Egypt has offered an endowed scholarship for Egyptian students majoring in business administration or computer science.
