Scholarships for Study Abroad and International Non-Degree Students

AUC offers financial assistance to study abroad students, who are visiting AUC from their home institutions, as well as international non-degree students who enrol in AUC courses but are not currently pursuing a degree. Before applying for AUC financial assistance, study abroad students should meet with their study abroad advisors to learn about opportunities for financial support from their home institutions.


Undergraduate Students

  • Awarded to U.S. study abroad students who enrol in political science, history, or Middle East studies-related courses at AUC. Applicants are not required to be a Middle East studies major. It is awarded initially for one semester and may be renewable for a second semester based on academic progress. It can be used to cover tuition and/or AUC housing costs. Awards range from $2,500-5,000 per student per semester. 

    Eligibility Criteria:

    • You must be enrolled in a U.S. university or college. 
    • You must be enrolled as a full-time study abroad student at AUC (12-15 credits/semester).
    • You must be enrolled at AUC as an international student (not paying Egyptian student tuition).
    • You must enroll in political science, history, or Middle East studies-related courses at AUC.

    Application Requirements: 

    • Upload a 500-word essay on why you would like to study at AUC specifically and in Egypt generally (see “How to Apply” section below).
    • Have one faculty recommendation letter emailed to iena@aucegypt.edu. Include reference to your name, the scholarship fund name, and your AUC ID number.
  • Awarded to non-degree students enrolled in Egyptology courses at AUC, with a preference given to those studying abroad from U.S. colleges and universities. Applicants are not required to be an Egyptology major. It is awarded initially for one semester and may be renewable for a second semester based on academic progress. It can be used to cover tuition and/or AUC housing costs.

    Eligibility Criteria: 

    • You must enrol in at least nine credit hours of Egyptology.
    • You must be enrolled at AUC as an international student (not paying Egyptian student tuition).

    Application Requirements: 

  • Awarded to U.S. study abroad students in any discipline or to support study in the Arabic language intensive programs (semester or summer). Awards for semester study range from $2,500-5,000 per student and awards for the Arabic Language Intensive Summer (ALIS) program are up to $2,000 per student. These scholarships can be used towards tuition, AUC housing costs, or received as a stipend.

    • You must be enrolled at AUC as an international student (not paying Egyptian student tuition).
    • You must be enrolled as a full-time study abroad student at AUC (12-15 credits/semester; 6 credits in Arabic Intensive Summer Program (ALIS).

    • Have one faculty recommendation letter emailed to iena@aucegypt.edu. Include reference to your name, the scholarship fund name, and your AUC ID number.
  • AUC is an access partner with the Fund for Education Abroad, offering scholarships with awards up to $1,250 for summer programs, up to $5,000 for semester programs, and up to $10,000 for academic year programs. Graduate Students

  • Awarded to non-degree students enrolled in Egyptology courses at AUC, with a preference given to those studying abroad from U.S. colleges and universities. Applicants are not required to be an Egyptology major. It is awarded initially for one semester and may be renewable for a second semester based on academic progress. It can be used to cover tuition and/or AUC housing costs.

    • You must be enrolled at AUC as an international student (not paying Egyptian student tuition).

    Application Requirements: 

  • Awarded to U.S. study abroad students pursuing the Arabic Language Intensive Summer (ALIS) program. Awards are up to $2,000 per student. These scholarships can be used to cover tuition, AUC housing costs, or as a stipend.

    Eligibility Criteria:

    • You must be enrolled in a U.S. university or college.
    • You must be enrolled at AUC as an international student (not paying Egyptian student tuition).
    • You must be enrolled as a full-time study abroad student at AUC (6 credits in Arabic Intensive Summer Program (ALIS).

    Application Requirements: 

    • Upload a 500-word essay on why you would like to study at AUC specifically and in Egypt generally (see “How to Apply” section below).
    • Have one faculty recommendation letter emailed to iena@aucegypt.edu. Include reference to your name, the scholarship fund name, and your AUC ID number.
  • Awarded for one semester to outstanding U.S. graduate students in any discipline, who are committed to utilizing their AUC experience to promote greater understanding and relations between Egypt and the U.S.

    Eligibility Criteria:

    • You must be enrolled in a U.S. university or college. 
    • You must be enrolled at AUC as an international student (not paying Egyptian student tuition).
    • You must be enrolled as a full-time study abroad student at AUC (9 credits/semester).

    Application Requirements:

    • Upload a 500-word essay on how you will utilize your AUC experience to promote greater understanding and relations between Egypt and the U.S. See “How to Apply” section below.
    • Have one faculty recommendation letter emailed to iena@aucegypt.edu. Include reference to your name, the scholarship fund name, and your AUC ID number.

How to Apply

First, submit a study abroad or non-degree admission application to AUC. Click here for the application forms and instructions. If you are applying to the intensive Arabic program (semester or summer), complete the application under “Arabic Language Institute.” 

After submitting your application form, you will receive an acknowledgment email that includes your AUC ID number. With your ID number and birthdate, set up an AUC banner account here

Log in to banner and select “Financial Aid and Scholarships Applications” to complete your scholarship application and upload the required documents.
