Leadership Transition at the School of Humanities and Social Sciences
October 6, 2025
Dear AUC Community,
I am writing to let you know that John Meloy, professor of Arab and Islamic civilizations and dean of the AUC School of Humanities and Social Sciences, has informed me that he will be retiring as of June 30, 2026. Since joining AUC in 2021, he has provided transformative leadership to HUSS, supporting and promoting the ongoing development of its students, faculty and programs.
Meloy's efforts on behalf of HUSS and AUC have been far-reaching. Be it in the areas of faculty research and creative endeavors, fundraising, student-centered learning or interdisciplinary teaching, the impact of his work is felt by all members of the HUSS and AUC communities. The enhanced quality of courses and programs offered by HUSS is a reflection of Meloy’s leadership and his commitment to educational excellence.
We will miss dean Meloy a great deal. His impact, however, will continue to be felt by our faculty and students in the years to come.
I will be putting together a committee to lead the search for the new dean of HUSS. In the meantime, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to dean Meloy for his tireless efforts and outstanding leadership.
Sincerely,
Ehab Abdel-Rahman
Provost
