Energy Saving Measures
April 20, 2026
Dear AUC Community,
In line with recent government directives, and as part of our shared commitment to using resources responsibly, we invite everyone in our community to take part in a few simple energy-saving practices. These small actions, when done collectively, can have a meaningful impact. Our aim is to reduce overall energy consumption while continuing to ensure a comfortable, safe, and well-functioning environment for all. With this in mind, we would like to highlight the following measures and appreciate your support in adopting them:
- Switch off all unnecessary plug-loads (phone chargers, printers, copy machines, heaters, desk lamps, etc.) when you leave your office, classroom or workplace.
- Turn off desktop computers and set them to “sleep” mode when you are away from your desk.
- Maximize the use of daylight during the day, turn-off space lighting as much as possible.
- Move events outdoors or adjust the time or venue to be more efficient.
- Report any unnecessary lighting, energy use or water waste you observe by emailing [facilities@aucegypt.edu] or calling 2615.2222.
In addition to measures we can all take as individuals, the University will also be adjusting the swimming pool heating to 25°C instead of 28.5°C. Electric water heaters in bathrooms and kitchenettes will be turned off and the air conditioning temperature settings will be 24-25°C instead of 22-23°C, expect for spaces with specific temperature requirements like labs. During the winter, heating settings will be adjusted to 21°C instead of 22°C. In addition, decorative fountains will be turned off to reduce unnecessary water and electricity usage. Finally, outdoor lighting in the evening will be reduced while ensuring adequate visibility and safety.
We will monitor the effectiveness of all the measures and adjust accordingly. Small
adjustments can make a meaningful difference when we all take part. Together, we can support national efforts and continue to care for our community and the environment.
Sincerely,
Ahmad Dallal
President
