Dear AUC Community,

I am saddened to share with you that Professor Emeritus Dan Tschirgi has passed away. Prior to his retirement, Professor Tschirgi dedicated over 30 years of his life to serving AUC and its students.

He first joined the University as a visiting assistant professor of political science in 1984 and received tenure in 1995. During his years at AUC, Tschirgi served as department chair as well as an officer on the University Senate. Among his many contributions to AUC, he initiated the Cairo Papers Annual Symposium in 1991. He was granted emeritus status upon his retirement from AUC in 2017.

Professor Tschirgi was a well-known and highly published scholar of international relations and Middle East politics. 

He was married to Conchita Añorve-Tschirgi, who spent many years as a librarian at AUC. A memorial service will be held on January 23, 2027 in Cozumel, Mexico, where they were living.
