About the Office

The Office of the University Architect provides strategic leadership for the planning, development, and stewardship of The American University in Cairo's physical campus both in New Cairo and Tahrir. Working in partnership with academic and administrative units, the office guides the evolution of the University's buildings, landscapes, and infrastructure to support AUC's academic mission, strategic priorities, and evolving community needs.

What We Do

The Office of the University Architect serves as AUC's center of expertise for campus planning, capital development, space planning and management, sustainability, and project delivery. The office provides strategic oversight on the off-campus real estate, and partners with the Office of Vice President for Managment and Operations to oversee the relevant scope from Energy, Buildings & Grounds and Building Saervices as applicable to the campus built environemnt. The office works collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, and external partners, the office transforms institutional priorities into high-quality physical environments that support education, research, and campus life.

Our work spans the entire project lifecycle—from long-range campus planning and space analysis to design, construction, furniture planning, and post-occupancy evaluation. Every project is guided by a commitment to functionality, sustainability, operational efficiency, and architectural excellence.

Our Responsibilities

• Campus master planning and long-term development 
• Planning, design and management of capital projects 
• Renovation and modernization of existing facilities 
• Strategic space planning and utilization 
• Furniture, fixtures and equipment planning and implementation 
• Campus sustainability initiatives and environmental performance 
• Development of campus design standards and architectural guidelines 
• Review and coordination of requests for building, space and furniture modifications 
• Oversight of major development initiatives, including Campus Expansion projects 
• Collaboration with University stakeholders to ensure projects align with institutional priorities, budgets and operational needs
