The maintenance department is responsible for providing comprehensive technical, energy management and facility support services to The American University in Cairo community. Through a team of qualified engineers, technicians and specialists, the department ensures the safe, reliable and efficient operation of the University’s buildings, infrastructure and utility systems.

Services

The Energy Management Unit is an integral part of the Maintenance Department and supports The American University in Cairo's commitment to operational efficiency, sustainability and environmental stewardship.

The unit seeks to optimize energy consumption, improve operational efficiency, reduce utility costs, extend the life of building systems and support The American University in Cairo's sustainability goals through continuous monitoring, analysis and implementation of energy-saving initiatives while maintaining compliance with applicable safety and environmental standards.

The unit is responsible for:

  • Monitoring electricity, water, gas and utility consumption across the University.
  • Operating and optimizing the building management system, known as BMS.
  • Developing and implementing energy conservation initiatives.
  • Conducting energy audits and performance assessments.
  • Monitoring energy efficiency indicators and building performance.
  • Supporting sustainability and environmental compliance programs.
  • Preparing utility consumption and energy performance reports.
  • Identifying opportunities to reduce operational costs through efficient energy utilization.
  • Supporting continuous improvement in campus energy performance.

The Maintenance Department consists of the following operational units:

  • Heating, Ventilation and Air-Conditioning (HVAC)
  • Electrical Maintenance
  • Plumbing Maintenance
  • Carpentry
  • Painting
  • Locksmith Services
  • Metal Fabrication and Welding
  • Flooring Maintenance
  • Energy Management

The computerized maintenance management system, known as CMMS, serves as the primary point of contact for all maintenance service requests.

Scope of Services 

The CMMS is responsible for:

  • Receiving and processing maintenance requests
  • Creating and assigning work orders
  • Tracking work order progress
  • Coordinating maintenance activities.
  • Supporting faculty and staff service requests
  • Monitoring maintenance performance
  • Providing status updates and requesting follow-up

To request a key:

  1. Complete the Key Request Form
  2. Obtain the required approvals
  3. Submit the completed form to the Maintenance Service Center, Physical Plant Building (Room P005)
