Students Rights and Responsibilities
Students receiving U.S. Federal Direct Loans at AUC have certain rights and responsibilities under federal regulations.
As a financial aid recipient, you are responsible for:
- Completing and submitting the FAFSA each academic year.
- Providing accurate and complete information on all financial aid applications and forms.
- Reading, understanding, and retaining copies of all documents you sign.
- Maintaining eligibility for federal student aid, including meeting Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements.
- Providing additional documentation requested by the Financial Aid Office.
- Notifying the Financial Aid Office of any additional financial assistance received, such as scholarships, private loans, or other educational resources.
- Maintaining the required enrollment status for your financial aid eligibility.
- Understanding the financial aid implications of adding, dropping, or withdrawing from courses.
- Notifying the Registrar's Office if you withdraw from the University.
- Notifying the Financial Aid Office if you do not plan to enroll in a semester for which aid has been awarded.
- Repaying any federal aid funds received in error or for which you are later determined ineligible.
- Keeping your contact information current with the University and your federal loan servicer.
- Responding promptly to requests for information from the Financial Aid Office.
- Complying with the terms and conditions of any loan or financial aid agreement you accept.
- Notifying your federal loan servicer if you change your name, address, telephone number, enrollment status, or transfer to another institution.
Student Rights
As a financial aid recipient, you have the right to:
- Know the procedures and deadlines for applying for financial aid.
- Know how your Cost of Attendance (COA) is determined.
- Know how your eligibility for financial aid is determined.
- Know the types and amounts of financial aid for which you are eligible.
- Know how and when your financial aid will be disbursed.
- Review the University's Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) standards and appeal procedures.
- Request an explanation of any financial aid decision.
- Review your financial aid records in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
- Receive information regarding the terms and conditions of any loan you accept.
- Accept, reduce, or decline any federal loan offered to you.
