Private Education Loans
Students who require funding beyond their federal student aid eligibility may wish to consider a private education loan.
Currently, the Sallie Mae Smart Option Student Loan is available to eligible undergraduate and graduate students enrolled at The American University in Cairo (AUC). Private education loans are credit-based loans offered by private lenders and are not funded by the U.S. Department of Education.
Eligibility Requirements
Eligibility is determined by Sallie Mae and generally requires that students:
- Be enrolled or accepted for enrollment at AUC.
- Meet applicable citizenship and residency requirements.
- Meet Sallie Mae's credit and underwriting criteria.
- Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP).
- Complete all required loan application and promissory note requirements.
Some applicants may be required to apply with a creditworthy cosigner.
Loan Amounts
Eligible students may borrow up to the Cost of Attendance (COA), less any other financial assistance received, as certified by the University and approved by the lender.
