The Public Policy Hub Organizes its First Study Tour to the U.S.

May 8, 2019

The Public Policy Hub organized a study tour to the U.S. with fourteen graduate students and alumni representing the four winning teams in the Public Policy Hub annual competition. The delegation was led by Laila El Baradei, professor of public administration and director of the Public Policy Hub, Hamid Ali, associate professor of public policy, and Mohamed Kadry the Public Policy Hub’s program manager.

The purpose of the study tour was to allow the students and alumni interested in public policy to experience organizations working on public policy research, communication and advocacy in the U.S.. They gained insight into these work environments, including challenges faced and tools used, and gained insight into what can be derived to guide similar policy work in the Egyptian context.

The tour allowed participants to visit and interact with think tanks, research centers and universities including: Brookings Institute, Pew Research Center, Brennan Center at New York University, Demos think tank, UNDP, UNDESA, UNICEF, George Washington University, The Institute of Conscious Global Change at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, the Government Accountability Office and Woodrow Wilson Center.

“It was a great learning experience for both faculty and students who participated. It provided us with an overview of how different institutions in government, academia and civil society contribute to effective policymaking and to a better system of governance through an intricate system of checks and balances,” said El Baradei.
