Meet The Winner of the Campus Christmas Decoration Competition
Monica Magdy '24 is the winner of AUC's Christmas Campus Decoration Competition
The New Cairo campus has sprung to life as a winter wonderland in anticipation of the holiday season. All over campus, you can find Christmas decorations spreading cheer, from the Administration Building to Bartlett Plaza.
A selection of this year’s decorations were designed by Monica Magdy ’24, winner of the campus-wide Christmas decoration competition. Her submitted designs now grace AUC New Cairo with seasonal charm: intricate snowflakes that hang between palm trees, a checkerboard-patterned AUC banner by Gate 1 and a large illuminated wire gift box situated in Bartlett Plaza.

Magdy majored in architectural engineering, was a member of the International Student Leadership Conference and previously worked as an architecture teaching assistant at the University. She submitted her designs to the Christmas decoration competition as a change of pace from her architecture courses.
“I felt like it would be rewarding to work on a real-life project and see it come to life, unlike the typical projects I worked on,” Magdy said. The opportunity to see her designs in person came with additional AUC swag: a festive snow globe and sweatshirt.
Magdy now works as a freelance architect, but the opportunity to return to campus, meet friends and see her designs was special.
“My job entails a lot of self-discipline, which is not easy in the presence of so many distractions in our fast-paced world. However, I have many friends whom I have met during my academic journey who always help me to push forward and encourage me to do my best.”
