Internationally Renowned Reading Ambassador Danny Brassell to Speak at AUC

The Graduate School of Education (GSE) at The American University in Cairo, in collaboration with the Department of Rhetoric and Composition, AUC Main Library, and AUC Press and Bookstores, is organizing a series of public talks with Danny Brassell, world-renowned reading ambassador and visiting professor at AUC, to promote reading among the AUC community. The series is part of GSE’s public lecture series “Egypt Reads!”

With a mission to spark a love for reading and bring joy back into education, Brassell uses humor and motivational techniques to inspire audiences around the world to improve their literacy aptitudes and attitudes.

Brassell’s talks will focus on the magic of reading and encourage students, parents, professors and teachers to make time to pick up a book by providing quality books that are suitable for avid readers with busy schedules. Throughout his presentations, he will share book recommendations and techniques on how to become a better and more consistent reader.

An educator, speaker and author, Brassell has devoted his life to improving the literacy aptitudes and attitudes of thousands. In his work, he has helped schools, universities, and faculties transform the institutional culture so that students want to read beyond what is required. Instead, they read all they can get their hands on.

In 2003, Brassell founded The Lazy Readers’ Book Club, www.lazyreaders.com, Google’s #1-ranked site for cool, “short book recommendations,” boasting over 10,000 subscribers. He has hosted his own radio program and appeared in various television and film projects. For five seasons he hosted the TV show People Make a Difference, which could be viewed in over 4 million homes throughout Southern California. His 2012 TEDx talk “The Reading Makeover” has been singled-out as one of the funniest and most inspirational education speeches of the past five years.

Brassell is the best-selling author of 15 books, including The Reading Breakthrough and The Reading Makeover. He has spoken to more than 2,500 different audiences worldwide.
