AUC Signs MOU with GAHAR to Build Healthcare Professionals' Capacity

The School of Business Executive Education at The American University in Cairo (AUC) signed an MOU last Thursday with the General Authority for Healthcare Accreditation and Regulation (GAHAR) to build healthcare professionals’ capacity. The collaboration reflects AUC and GAHAR’s ongoing efforts to improve the quality of healthcare services provided to the community, in line with the strategic objectives for Egypt’s 2030 Vision. The MOU was signed by AUC Provost Ehab Abdel-Rahman and GAHAR Chairman Ashraf Ismail at AUC New Cairo campus.

The ceremony was attended by AUC President Ahmad Dallal, AUC Counselor Mohamed Hamza, the Executive Director of AUC’s Executive Education Mohamed Abdel Salam and GAHAR board member Al Sayed Al Okda and the Head of the Technical Office at GAHAR Mahmoud Zeid.

AUC President Ahmad Dallal said: “We are pleased to partner with GAHAR to offer programs that serve the healthcare sector. AUC has always been committed to offering professional education programs with great impact. This collaboration reflects AUC’s culture of lifelong learning, continuing education and service to the community,” said Dallal.

The agreement entails providing a complementary program extracted from the Egyptian Certified Accreditation Professional program (EGYCAP) content to the holders of the AUC Healthcare Quality Excellence Diploma. The diploma holders will then be eligible to pass the GAHAR assessment exams and be certified accreditation professionals.

The collaboration aims at qualifying medical professionals to provide safe and high-quality healthcare services, in accordance with the accreditation standards issued by GAHAR that is approved by the International Society for Quality in Health Care (ISQua).

The AUC Healthcare Quality Excellence Diploma addresses the current challenges in the healthcare industry and provides aspiring healthcare professionals with innovative techniques and approaches to creatively refine the provision of healthcare services. Participants of this diploma are exposed to the practical aspects of how to master continuous improvement methodologies, patient safety techniques as well as the latest in risk management expertise.

GAHAR Chairman Ashraf Ismail welcomed the joint agreement, commenting: “This collaboration solidifies our efforts to promote the health sector and provide it with specialized experts with the needed knowledge and skills to qualify the healthcare facilities for registration and accreditation.”

Ismail also praised the important role played by AUC in setting the foundations of quality at the national and international levels, and added: “GAHAR allocates all its capabilities to achieve this common goal — which is qualifying technical calibers either through the ISQua-accredited Egyptian GAHAR standards for the different healthcare facilities, or through orienting, qualifying or training of trainers.”

Sherif Kamel, dean of AUC School of Business, said: “This agreement greatly supports the AUC School of Business mission to develop entrepreneurial and responsible global leaders and professionals. Our collaboration will act as a catalyst in paving the way for a more agile healthcare community by delivering high-quality professional development education for healthcare professionals.”
