More than 2,000 students from over 40 schools in Egypt were at AUC last week for the Junior Cairo International Model United Nations conference to take part in diplomatic simulations.   JCIMUN is an annual high school level conference where students from all around the world are exposed to the work of the United Nations.

AUC Theatre Students Work at Cairo International Festival for Contemporary and Experimental Theatre

AUC theatre students were involved in over 20 different plays and workshops brought to Cairo from around the world as part of the 26th annual Cairo International Festival for Contemporary and Experimental Theatre. Students majoring and minoring in theatre volunteered their time to help translate, organize workshops and volunteer both behind the scenes and on stage at one of largest theatre festivals in the region.

Battling Irritable Bowel Disease

Can Irritable Bowel Disease be treated? Ahmed Mustafa, associate professor of bioinformatics at AUC, researches the connection between the human gut microbiome and IBD. Through a project conducted in collaboration with Human Longevity Inc, J. Craig Venter Institute and the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine, Mustafa found significant detections that can help create a probiotic to treat, or at least reduce the severity of, IBD.

Videogames: A Blessing or a Curse?

Studies often show that video games have harmful effects on children. The research of Dina Bassiouni, assistant professor of marketing at the AUC School of Business, takes a different stance. Bassiouni talks about her research on children's engagement with computer and video games from developmental, social and educational perspectives, and whether such engagement can be beneficial.
