Sherwat Elwan is professor of operations and supply chain management at the Onsi Sawiris School of Business at The American University in Cairo and network lead on Business Schools for Climate Leadership Africa. She is a founding member and former chair of PRME Chapter Africa. Her previous roles included director of the MBA and EMBA programs at the Onsi Sawiris School of Business and visiting associate professor at the School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University. She holds a master's and PhD in technology management from Stevens Institute of Technology.

Elwan is an expert on Africa's sustainable development, global value chains, supply chain resilience, technology and innovation. She is a partner and senior consultant at Innovety, LLC, specializing in climate action, innovation for SDGs and small and medium-sized enterprises' business growth in Africa and the Middle East. Her research interests include sustainable supply chain management, responsible sourcing, supplier governance and technology adoption. She has published in journals such as Journal of Supply Chain Management, Journal of African Business, Journal of Economic Geography, Global Perspectives, Africa Journal of Management and Management Decision, and co-edited Africa and Sustainable Global Value Chains and The Handbook on Business and Society.

Elwan is editor-in-chief for the Cambridge Forum on Corporate Climate Governance, regional editor for the Journal of Supply Chain Management (Africa) and associate editor for Engineering Management Review. She also serves on the boards of the Africa Academy of Management, the Center for Applied Research and Innovation in Supply Chain–Africa and the African Interdisciplinary Studies.
