
Noha Sami Omar

Noha Omar is an assistant professor of economics in the Onsi Sawiris School of Business at The American University in Cairo (AUC). She earned her master’s degree in economics from Queen Mary University of London in 2010 and her PhD from the Faculty of Economics and Political Science, Cairo University in 2016. Her doctoral thesis was the first in Egypt to use satellite data to estimate GDP at the national and subnational levels.
In addition to her role at AUC, Omar is an assistant professor at Cairo University and previously worked as a researcher and project coordinator at the Economic Research Forum. Her research interests include inclusive growth, poverty, inequality and social protection, with a focus on multidimensional deprivation, innovation and economic performance and social safety programs. Her current work examines income and multidimensional poverty, as well as cash transfer programs in Egypt.
Omar has served as a consultant to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS), the Ministry of Higher Education, the Ministry of Trade and Industry, the World Bank, UNICEF and ESCWA.
