Melissa Harris Clark is the business, humanities and social sciences librarian at The American University in Cairo, where she supports research and teaching through one-on-one consultations, course-integrated instruction, and information and digital literacy education.

Her career encompasses leadership, professional and consulting work across federal, research, rare book and archival libraries and cultural institutions, including the Smithsonian Libraries and Archives, the Library of Congress, the National Library of Medicine, the National Agricultural Library and the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.

Her own research centers on the Nile River Valley as a shared ecological, cultural and spiritual landscape, shaped by millennia of human habitation and deeply woven into the religious histories and traditions of those who have lived along it, asking whether that shared relationship can reveal points of connection across religious and cultural differences and make meaningful dialogue possible.
