Mathilde Perray

Brief Biography

Mathilde Perray is an assistant professor in the Department of Psychology at The American University in Cairo. Her research examines the psychosocial dimensions of health among vulnerable populations, with particular attention to social identity, empowerment and experiences of stigmatization.

Her work is grounded in a community-based participatory research approach, engaging communities as active partners in the research process rather than merely as subjects of study. This methodological commitment reflects a broader concern with epistemic justice: ensuring that the people most affected by an issue have a genuine voice in how it is studied and addressed. Her previous work has explored psychosocial issues within the Malian community program Gundo-So, developed in partnership with Coalition PLUS, which supports women living with HIV in navigating decisions around disclosing their HIV status; the Tagg Picc project in partnership with the RCJ, which adapts the Gundo-So program for young adults living with HIV in Senegal; and the RURAL community research project, conducted with Solidarités Paysans, examining well-being in agricultural contexts in France.
