Hedayat Heikal

Brief Biography

Hedayat Heikal is an assistant professor of law at The American University in Cairo (AUC) with expertise in public law, comparative law and law and technology. After graduating from AUC with a bachelor’s degree in electronics engineering, Heikal earned a Juris Doctor (JD) and a Doctor of Juridical Science (SJD) from Harvard Law School, where she received the Sears Prize for academic achievement and the Addison-Brown Prize for scholarship in private international law. She was a Climenko Fellow and lecturer on law at Harvard Law School and the inaugural Abdallah S. Kamel Fellow and research scholar in law at Yale Law School, where she continues to serve on the advisory board of the Kamel Center for Islamic Law and Civilization. She also holds dual qualifications as an attorney in the State of New York and in Egypt. Heikal was an associate with Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP in New York between 2009 and 2013 and has represented a variety of financial institutions and companies in cross-border investment, regulatory and financial technology matters. At AUC, she currently convenes the “Governance for Inclusive Development” research project as part of the School of Global Affairs and Public Policy’s Future of Inclusive Development (FIDE) program.
