Anastasia Gkoliomyti is an assistant professor of urban design in the Department of Architecture, School of Sciences and Engineering, at The American University in Cairo. She is an architect and urban theorist whose work examines the production of architectural knowledge beyond established disciplinary canons at the intersection of material culture and vernacular dwelling practice. She earned her doctor of philosophy from the Tokyo Institute of Technology in 2024 as a Japanese Government Scholar, investigating fieldwork drawings as epistemic acts. She holds a Master of Architecture from the National Technical University of Athens. As a research fellow and co-principal investigator at Kasahara Laboratory, Tokyo Gakugei University, she investigates art education as community practice. Her work has appeared in ARDETH, the European Journal of Creative Practices in Cities and Landscapes, Building Diversity, TOTO Gallery MA and FutureLab Shanghai, among others. She has led architectural and urban design studios in collaboration with local communities in Japan and China and has received first and second prizes in architectural design competitions.
