Services and Facilities
AUC provides a range of vital services for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
The AUC New Cairo CIB branch currently has three automated teller machines (ATM) available on the University premises. The first one is situated on the garden level of the administration building. The second is located in front of the Center for the Arts, and the third one is inside the campus center’s main cafeteria. The National Bank of Egypt also has one ATM located on the garden level of the administration building.
A branch of the Commercial International Bank (CIB) is located on the plaza level of the administration building. CIB’s office hours are from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Sunday through Thursday.
Bikie is an AUC Bike Share service in which bikes are made available for shared use to individuals on a short-term basis for a price or for free. Bike shares allow people to borrow a bike from a station and return it back either to the same station or at another.

The AUC Press today operates in Cairo's five bookstores, unique for their extensive English-language selection of more than 20,000 titles, their longstanding tradition of international bookselling experience, and their professional staff.
The AUC Bookstores deliver the highest quality of services to AUC students, faculty, and staff, as well as to the wider Cairo community and travelers to Egypt.

AUC maintains an extensive bus service available to all members of the AUC community. Our buses cover 13 routes that travel between the AUC New Cairo and AUC Tahrir Square Campuses and through neighborhoods all over the city. Buses run on set schedules throughout the day, five days a week in addition to limited services on Saturday. Our comfortable coach buses have reclining seats, window curtains, and free wi-fi onboard.
In line with our efforts to keep the AUC community safe, the following measures are implemented for all buses on all of AUC’s bus routes:
- An AUC University ID check/scan by AUC security staff for all passengers prior to riding the bus (the point before this one was removed)
- Drivers will not be permitted to stop or open the bus door until the bus reaches its next stop/final destination
- No unaccompanied packages will be accepted for transport to either campus; bus riders can continue to transport necessary materials to campus
- Logos/decals used to identify buses serving the AUC community are no longer in place
Faculty, staff and students who wish to have a visitor ride the bus to/from AUC must:
- Send an email (at least one working day ahead of the visit) to the AUC transportation services and office of safety and security, with either a scanned copy of the national ID/passport of the visitor or stating the full name and national ID/passport number of the visitor. The email must also have the date and time of the visit, and the route that the visitor will ride.
- The visitor must show the national ID/passport to the security staff before riding the bus.
Staff and faculty are entitled to ride the bus for free. However, spouses, relatives, friends, and visitors should pay a ticket per ride. Alumni can ride the bus upon showing their valid alumni ID and pay a ticket per ride.

Bus Service Subscription
Students who use the bus regularly are advised to subscribe to the bus service on a full-year or semester-by-semester basis, for the cheapest trip price. You can find everything you need to know about the bus fees, subscription deadline, fees refund policy, and ID activation for the bus pass on our web page here.
Students who intend to subscribe for the bus service must complete Banner subscription before the "Late payment deadline with extra charges" date, specified each semester in the AUC Academic Calendar. Students who miss the subscription deadline would have to pay a ticket per ride. Scholarship/fellowship students must as well do the subscription within the stipulated deadline, to avoid being charged a ticket per ride.
Bus Service Automated Ticket-Per-Ride Service
This ticket-per-ride service is more convenient to non-regular bus users, and we are saving you the hassle of paying in cash. The bus service turnstiles charge a ticket price (USD 3.5) upon swiping the student ID. The charged tickets then go to the student banner for settlement, all at once.
How does it work?
- Upon swiping the ID on the turnstile, a notification email is sent to the student with the ticket details
- The tickets are accumulated and charged to the student account twice per semester (mid-semester charge and end of semester charge)
- If a student has a problem with any of the ticket details, he/she must contact us immediately via email to resolve it; forward the ticket notification email along with a briefing of the problem

The free Wi-Fi is available on all our buses, and the Wi-Fi password is auc transport. While using the Wi-Fi is free of charge, note:
- The internet service quality and speed varies regionally
- You are using the internet with other users, which means that the internet is evenly distributed to all riders
- Movies, streams, software updates, and other ways of high data usage are not possible

Business Support Services
The Business Support Office is responsible for supporting the teaching and research process for AUC's students, faculty, and staff. The Business Support Office is also responsible for informing all re-located faculty and international students with governmental regulations related to student visas, work permits, residency in Egypt and process their issuing and renewals.

For department visitors, AUC offers fleet and on-campus club cart services. Visitors can reserve a vehicle and driver for trips inside or outside Cairo, a club cart for transportation within the campus through the host department.
AUC’s main cashier is located in the administration building on the ground floor in room G027. Working hours: 9:00 am – 2:00 pm
Counseling Psychology Training Center
The Department of Psychology is offering free counseling services to the AUC faculty, staff, alumni, students, and their respective families. Counselors are graduate-level students finishing their clinical hours before graduation. Each one is professionally supervised by our psychology faculty members who know how to treat and help you deal with a wide variety of issues, including stress, family and parenting, anxiety, relationships and marital conflicts, depression, lack of motivation, sadness, concentration problems, anger, self-esteem, life transition, and self-discovery. The counseling services we provide are for individuals, groups, couples, parents.
All sessions will be offered at our comfortable and private offices located on the first floor of the Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Bin Abdulaziz Alsaud Hall.

The children's daycare center "Early Years Company", located on the AUC New Cairo premises, is governed by a non-governmental organization (NGO). Priority is given to the children of the AUC staff and faculty. It is an English medium daycare and preschool for children from one year old (and walking) through five years of age only. It follows The American University in Cairo's calendar, so it is closed on the days the University is closed. The daycare stays open most of the summer. The Digital Innovation unit at The American University in Cairo serves the community by providing the technology needed to support AUC goals and objectives. The digital innovation team is responsible for technology in all AUC premises, including student and faculty housing premises and AUC buses. For more information about digital innovation, click here.
The Student Disability Services (SDS) unit provides services to students with disabilities to ensure that all activities and programs are accessible. Through partnerships with students, faculty and staff, the unit promotes self-awareness, self-determination and self-advocacy to enhance opportunities for academic success. The aim is to create a campus environment where students are viewed on the basis of ability rather than disability.

At AUC, there are two major food courts, bakeries, coffee shops and convenience stores on campus, perfect to grab a coffee, eat between classes or enjoy a meal with friends. The import and export unit handles both new and departing relocated faculty and staff eligible for shipping allowance to import or export their stuff through AUC forwarding agents.

Mail services require a thorough knowledge of postal service regulations, rates, services, and operations, hence, mail operations are executed through highly trained staff and a timed plan to meet the needs of AUC customers.

The AUC clinics at both AUC New Cairo and Tahrir Square offer comprehensive health care services to ensure the well-being of the entire AUC community. Provided services include medical advice, treatment, vaccines, pharmacy services, and recommendations for outside care. The AUC clinic also has provider relationships with the best hospitals in Cairo and coordinates referrals to labs, specialists or other medical facilities.

AUC's main library boasts nearly 500,000 print volumes, 130 electronic journal subscriptions and is home to the largest English-language collection in Egypt, the AUC New Cairo library is the hub of study, research, and investigation on campus. The library is home to the Learning Commons, your go-to spot for research and technology help. Expert research librarians are always available to assist you in hunting down information, whether in a book, online or in a document in another library across the world.
AUC’s Tahrir Square library gives you all of the resources of AUC's libraries, without leaving downtown Cairo.
The Rare Books and Special Collections Library has a remarkable archive of documents from the arts, culture, and society of Egypt and the Middle East. You can explore not just books and periodicals, but also manuscripts, photographs and slides, maps, architectural drawings, memorabilia and artifacts, and audio-visual media. The library also houses the University archives.

New automated cashless Parking Access System (PAS). This system will make entering and exiting campus easier, and a true cashless experience.
What is the Parking Access System (PAS)?
PAS is an integrated system that utilizes AUC’s smart ID to provide both access control to the campus at its outer gates and an automatic, cashless parking subscription and fee collection mechanism.
The main objectives of PAS are to:
- Enhance security
- Eliminate cash transactions for students, faculty, and staff
- Decrease the processing time needed to enter and exit campus
- Provide real-time statistics for parking usage
How Does PAS Work?
All faculty, staff, and students with an active AUC ID will swipe their IDs over the reader on the driver’s side of the vehicle as they enter or exit campus to open the barrier. Faculty, staff, and students will have the choice to pay either using AUC Pay, if the option has been activated, or will be charged the one-day parking pass fee automatically to their student payment account on Banner or their next month’s pay for faculty and staff.
Members of the AUC community who wish to use AUC Pay must first activate it on their smart ID. Visit the AUC Pay webpage to learn more about how to activate AUC Pay.
- Due to COVID-19 safety measures and our current hybrid learning mode, the semester-long parking subscription option will be suspended until fall 2021. All users of the parking lot will need to use one-day passes.
- The one-day parking pass fee is EGP 5.
- Faculty, staff, and students should use the right lane (fast lane) for expedited entry and exit to the campus.
- Alumni, SCE students, ESS students, and visitors should use the left lane and pay a one-day parking pass fee against a stamped paper ticket.
- All community members are required to have an activated AUC ID with them at all times. If you have any questions or feedback regarding the new Parking Access System (PAS), share it via email or visit the security office located at gate 4.
- The University assumes no responsibility for vehicle damage, theft, or theft of vehicle contents when the vehicle is parked on campus
- No parking is allowed in areas not specifically designated for parking
- Drivers must observe all posted instructions; vehicles must fit within parking slots, and be parked within the boundary lines
- Vehicles parked in designated handicapped spaces must display a valid University handicapped permit along with a parking permit or daily ticket
- The University reserves the right to ticket or tow vehicles that are parked illegally at the owner’s risk and expense
- Any University-registered vehicle parked on campus must display either a valid parking permit or daily ticket. To register your vehicle, click here
- Overnight parking is allowed only with prior approval from the security office
- The visitors parking lot is reserved for visitors only

The printing and copying services unit provides quality, timely, and efficient printing and copying services to the AUC community in order to best support its academic programs and administrative services.

The Travel Office was established to help faculty and staff members, administrators and students with their travel plans. It handles business and personal trips, in Egypt or abroad through our corporate deals with excellent hotels, and monitors policies set by the administration for these types of travel.
The office also arranges meet-and-assist services through customs and immigration arranged at the airport in accordance with the guidelines governing the provisions of such services. (Services are available upon request for non-Egyptians only).
