Note: The American University in Cairo (AUC) delivers its academic programs through on-campus instruction. Students receiving U.S. Federal Direct Loans are expected to attend classes in person and must meet all enrollment requirements established by the University.
Joint Degree Programs at AUC with Other Institutions Abroad
Students enrolled in joint degree programs that include study at a partner institution abroad should be aware that eligibility for U.S. Federal Direct Loans may be affected during periods of enrollment at the partner institution.
Federal student aid eligibility for study abroad and joint degree programs is determined in accordance with U.S. Department of Education regulations and University policies. Students should contact the Financial Aid Office before participating in a study abroad or joint degree program to determine how their enrollment may affect federal loan eligibility.
Joint degree programs currently offered at AUC include:
- Comparative and Middle East Politics and Society (CMEPS) (MA)
- Master in International Management/CEMS (MIM/CEMS)
Note: The University of Tübingen has deferment-only status under U.S. federal student aid regulations. Students may not receive U.S. Federal Direct Loans for periods of enrollment at a deferment-only foreign institution.

Refund Policy
The American University in Cairo (AUC) maintains an institutional refund policy that applies to all students who withdraw from the University.
Students receiving U.S. Federal Direct Loans are also subject to the federal Return of Title IV Funds (R2T4) regulations. In cases where federal regulations apply, the Return of Title IV Funds requirements may result in a different refund calculation than the University's institutional refund policy.

Withdrawal Procedures
Note: Students who intend to withdraw from The American University in Cairo (AUC) must follow the University's official withdrawal procedures.
Withdrawing from the University may affect your eligibility for U.S. Federal Direct Loans and may result in a Return of Title IV Funds (R2T4) calculation under federal regulations. Depending on the date of withdrawal, a portion of your federal aid may be returned to the U.S. Department of Education, which could result in a balance owed to the University.
Students are encouraged to contact the Financial Aid Office before withdrawing to discuss the potential impact on their financial aid eligibility.

AUC does not provide false, misleading, inaccurate, or deceptive information regarding:
- Academic programs and educational services
- Accreditation and institutional approvals
- Tuition, fees, and other financial charges
- Availability of financial aid
- Employability of graduates
- Transferability of academic credits
- Relationships with employers, licensing agencies, or other organizations
AUC maintains policies and procedures designed to ensure that all institutional communications, advertising, marketing materials, student testimonials, and public disclosures are accurate and comply with applicable federal regulations.
AUC does not make false, misleading, or unsubstantiated claims regarding employment opportunities, job placement rates, career outcomes, licensure examination results, salaries, or labor market conditions for graduates. Any employment or career outcome information published by the University is based on available data and is presented in a manner that is accurate, complete, and consistent with applicable federal regulations.
Private Education Loans
Code of Conduct for Education Loans
The American University in Cairo (AUC) is committed to administering student loan programs with integrity and in the best interests of students and their families. The University prohibits conflicts of interest related to the administration of education loans and complies with all applicable federal regulations governing educational loan practices.
University employees, agents, and representatives involved in the administration of educational loans are prohibited from:
- Entering into revenue-sharing arrangements with any lender.
- Soliciting or accepting gifts from a lender, guarantor, or loan servicer.
- Receiving fees, payments, or other financial benefits for consulting arrangements or contracts with a lender or lender affiliate.
- Directing borrowers to a particular lender, or refusing to certify or delaying certification of a loan based on the borrower's choice of lender.
- Accepting offers of funds for private education loans in exchange for providing the lender with a specified number or volume of loans or loan applications.
- Requesting or accepting assistance from a lender with staffing or financial aid office operations, except as permitted by federal regulations.
- Receiving compensation for service on an advisory board, commission, or group established by a lender, except for reasonable reimbursement of expenses incurred in connection with such service.
AUC is committed to ensuring that all student loan decisions are made in the best interests of students and are free from conflicts of interest or improper influence.
Private Student Loan Disclosures and Preferred Lender List
The American University in Cairo (AUC) does not maintain a Preferred Lender List and does not have a preferred lender arrangement with any private education loan lender.
Students may choose any eligible private lender that is willing to provide educational loans for study at AUC. However, students should be aware that many private lenders do not offer loans to students attending institutions outside the United States.
AUC currently certifies private education loans offered through Sallie Mae. Students interested in obtaining a Sallie Mae loan must apply directly with the lender. The University's reference to Sallie Mae does not constitute an endorsement, recommendation, or preferred lender arrangement.
AUC does not receive any financial benefit, compensation, or incentive from Sallie Mae or any other private lender. If additional lenders become available to students attending AUC, they will be provided equal consideration and visibility.
Private education loans, when combined with all other financial assistance, may not exceed a student's Cost of Attendance (COA) as determined by the University.
Students are encouraged to explore eligibility for U.S. Federal Direct Loans before applying for a private education loan. Federal student loans may offer terms and borrower benefits that are more favorable than those available through private lenders.
AUC does not recommend or endorse any particular lender and encourages students to carefully compare loan terms, interest rates, fees, repayment options, and borrower benefits before selecting a private education loan.
