AI Resources for Researchers and Scholars

AI can support researchers at different stages of the research process. Using AI responsibly requires a strong foundation in research literacy and an understanding of the tools’ capabilities and limitations.

AI Use in Research and Creative Endeavors

For research, creativity and/or scholarly outputs, AUC community members who intend to use AI tools must carefully check any guidelines emerging within their respective disciplines, or established by the academic journal, publishing house, or venue through which the work will be published and/or presented.

AI Use and Disclosures in Publications

Researchers are advised to follow the requirements specified by each journal/publisher.

AI Use in Graduate Theses

As addressed in the Graduate Studies Manual,  planned use of AI in the thesis work/document, at the proposal stage, should be specified in the proposal, to be agreed upon with the thesis supervisor, with a commitment to have any such planned use reviewed and validated by the human author. More details can be checked on the Graduate Studies Thesis Guidelines.

At the submission stage of the final thesis, an AI disclosure form needs to be completed and submitted.

Ongoing Research Projects

The project aims to develop a novel AI-enabled biochip for rapid, point-of-care cancer detection. The project has advanced from concept development to detailed implementation, with most activities completed.

The project investigates the effectiveness and responsible use of generative AI across multiple disciplines.

AI-Optimized Urban Layouts for Sustainable Upgrading of Egypt’s Unplanned Settlements

This project examines the effects of climate change on corporate financial performance, risk, stock price crash risk, and liquidity in Egypt and selected emerging markets. Using data from 1990-2023, it combines econometric analysis with AI techniques, including machine learning and NLP, to assess climate-related risks and the roles of CEO characteristics and corporate digitalization. The study aims to provide insights into ESG risk management, sustainable business strategies, and policy development for enhancing financial resilience in the face of environmental challenges.

New Research Projects

The project will develop AI-enabled, waste-derived materials for carbon dioxide capture, addressing rising emissions and advancing circular economy practices.

Co-PIs: Tarek Madkour; Department of  Biological, Chemical, and Global Health Sciences, Abdel Aziz Khlaifat, Sherif Fakher; Department of Petroleum Engineering, and Noha Youssef; Department of Mathematics and Actuarial Science. 

This project will document and preserve Cairo’s living urban heritage through AI-assisted analysis, community participation, and extensive undergraduate engagement.

PI: Nabil Mohareb; Department of Architecture; Heba El Deghaidy; Department of Applied Linguistics and Educational Studies, Sherif Goubran; Department of Architecture, and Hoda Mostafa; Center for Learning and Teaching. 

The project will apply AI-driven urban design tools to support infrastructure planning and sustainable redevelopment of informal settlements.
