U.S. Loans
When applying for U.S. Loans it’s important to understand the types of loans that are available at AUC.
There are two types of student loans:
Federal Student Loans
These loans are funded by the U.S. federal government.
- Direct Subsidized Loans and Direct Unsubsidized Loans
- Direct PLUS Loans (for graduate students or parents of undergraduate students)

Private Student Loans
Private student loans are non-federal education loans offered by private lenders, such as banks, credit unions, state agencies, or other financial institutions.
Students are encouraged to explore all available sources of financial assistance, including U.S. Federal Direct Loans, before considering a private education loan. Federal student loans may offer benefits that are not typically available through private loans, such as fixed interest rates, income-driven repayment plans, deferment options, and loan forgiveness programs.
AUC currently certifies private education loans offered through the Sallie Mae Smart Option Student Loan program. Eligibility, interest rates, repayment terms, and borrower benefits are determined by the lender.
