AUC Supports Entrepreneurship in Egypt to Become African Hub

In an attempt to actively promote entrepreneurship in Egypt, members of AUCs Board of Trustees, faculty members and alumni took part in the seminar, Entrepreneurship in Egypt: From Local Individual Successes to Becoming an African Hub.

AUC Trustee Hisham El-Khazindar '96, co-founder and managing director of Qalaa Holdings, and Sherif Kamel  '88, '90, '13, dean of AUCs School of Business, delivered the welcome remarks. Ayman Ismail '95, '97, assistant professor and the Abdul Latif Jameel Endowed Chair of Entrepreneurship, moderated a talk on “Egypt’s Entrepreneurial Ecosystem,”featuring diverse panelists, including Khaled Bichara ’96, co-founder of Accelero Capital. Hanan Abdel Meguid, vice president for management and transformation at AUC and CEO of Kamelizer, discussed “Entrepreneurial Experiences from the Greek Campus.” AUC Trustee Ziad Bahaa- Eldin '87, founder and managing partner of Thebes Consultancy, moderated a session on the “Inauguration of Entrepreneurial Competition.” 

Organized by The Egyptian Center for Economic Studies, the event aimed to shed light on the various aspects of the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Egypt to increase and expand the number of entrepreneurs throughout Egypt as well as initiate collaboration with African countries. including the importance of entrepreneurship as the key to future development, the efforts of Egyptian public and private institutions in this regard.

Investors, bankers and entrepreneurs also gave talks at the event. These include Khaled Hanafy, secretary-general of the Union of Arab Chambers; Nermine El-Tahri, assistant sub-governor of the Central Bank of Egypt; Abla Abdel Latif, executive director and director of research of the Egyptian Center for Economic Studies.
