AUC Statement on Giulio Regeni

There were extensive news reports over the weekend about the discovery of the body of 28-year-old Giulio Regeni, an Italian PhD student from the University of Cambridge, who disappeared on the evening of January 25. His body was found in the Cairo suburb of 6th of October on Wednesday night. A formal investigation has been launched into the circumstances surrounding his death. The University has been in close contact with authorities since his disappearance and continues to monitor the case. Regeni was in Egypt since September pursuing his doctoral thesis under the supervision of an AUC professor. He was a visiting scholar at the University.  AUC extends its condolences and sympathies to his family and friends.
