New Trustee Elected: Bishoy Azmy '02

ديسمبر 8, 2020

Bishoy Azmy ’02, CEO of the Dubai-based ASGC construction group, is the newest and youngest member of AUC’s Board of Trustees.

Originally from Egypt, Azmy grew up in Dubai and lives there now with his wife Mary and two young boys. Inspired by the transformation of Dubai, Azmy pursued his higher education in business and construction management and then returned to run the family business. Azmy started off in ASGC as a site engineer, rising steadily to become CEO in 2008. As the company states, “his modern outlook and clear vision have set ASGC in the front line of the industry’s digital transformation era.”

Azmy graduated summa cum laude from AUC with a bachelor’s in construction engineering, then went on to receive his master’s in international construction management from the University of Bath and an EMBA from the London Business School. He has also taken executive education courses at prestigious universities and business schools, including Harvard and the Institute for Management Development. His business employs more than 18,000 people in the Middle East and brings in an excess of $1 billion annually. ASGC’s main areas of operation are construction, real estate development and construction material manufacturing in the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Canada and the United Kingdom.

Azmy is an active member of numerous organizations in the region and around the world. A board member of the local Emirates Chapter of the Young Presidents Organisation, he is also an associate of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and sits on the board of Costain, one of the United Kingdom’s biggest infrastructure contractors.

"We are excited to welcome an enthusiastic alum and friend of the University to the Board of Trustees,” said Richard Bartlett, chair of AUC’s Board of Trustees. “Bishoy's engineering and business acumen will be a great resource to the University's long-term planning, especially because he values what a liberal arts education has meant for his own work and what it can do for the region."
