Fiscal Year 2021 Awards

The Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) represents the University in its dealings with external sponsors such as international organizations, governments, foundations and corporations, and is responsible for submitting all project proposals and administering awards. The office helps faculty members identify potential funding sources, develop proposals, negotiate the terms of grants and contracts, and ensures that AUC complies with the sponsors’ terms.

During FY21, through skillful and professional engagement OSP managed to break records and excel with the aim to provide support and expertise to develop and submit competitive proposals and administer awards. OSP submitted in FY21 a record high of 172 proposals, representing more than 6% increase versus the past 3 years’ average and more than 8% increase versus FY20. Furthermore, AUC received throughout the year approximately $42 million in external funding to support research, fellowships and scholarships, academic and institutional support activities, training and public service projects.

Despite the pandemic challenges OSP secured a $10 million new award under the “USAID-AUC Merit Award (UAMA)” project. The fixed award aims to support 108 partial scholarships between 62 continuing students and 46 new students for the coming three years. Extending on previous success, AUC managed to win a supplementary award of $1.8 million to the current United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Scholars Activity, thus increasing the total award from $36 million to a new total of $37.8 million. Similarly, building on the resonant success of the current University Center for Career Development (UCCD), USAID approved adding $14.5 million to the ongoing project, increasing the total to $33 million and extending the grant till 2025. The stretched scope will establish a total of 30 sustainable career centers in 22 public universities across Egypt, which will result in a massive impact on the employability of approximately 1.5 million youth. Further award achievements reveal AUC’s 47 new grants which amount to $10 million from different foundations in Egypt and around the globe that support research, public service and scholarships.
