AUC To Complete the Spring Semester Through Online Learning

With the Spring semester ending in May, The American University in Cairo (AUC) announced today it will complete the term remotely to eliminate uncertainty and allow the University to focus its undivided attention on delivering the best possible learning outcomes for its students.

AUC’s move to online instruction on March 22 came as one of several precautionary measures the University is taking in an effort to help limit the spread of Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19).

"Over the past few weeks, since the move to emergency remote online instruction, the question of what comes next has been on everyone’s mind, especially our students,” said AUC Provost Ehab Abdel-Rahman. "After consultation with faculty, chairs and deans, as well as analysis of survey results, we have come to the decision to complete the Spring semester through online learning. While no one can predict when we may safely return to campus, the inability to anticipate and plan for the rest of the semester has been a challenge for both faculty and students."  

Abdel-Rahman added that AUC is actively applying new approaches to improve its online experience and responding to the many concerns our students and faculty have raised. 

"We have been in discussions about assessments, the attendance policy and the approach to grading for this term. By Monday of this week, AUC's approach to each of these important issues will be announced," he said.
