Brief Biography

Fikry Boutros, PhD (TESOL, University of Nicosia), is a senior instructor in the Department of Rhetoric and Composition at The American University in Cairo. His research focuses on interlanguage/second language pragmatics, politeness theories, apology as a speech act and email pragmatics.

Since 2011, Boutros has taught a variety of courses, including research writing, public speaking, business communication, introduction to linguistics, language and politics, and leadership. He has also served as adjunct faculty at the University of Nicosia, teaching applied linguistics, English morphology and syntax, semantics and pragmatics, sociolinguistics and psycholinguistics. He received the Excellence in Teaching Award in 2021, after being repeatedly nominated since 2012.

In addition to his academic work, Boutros actively contributes to the University community. He served on the University Senate from 2023 to 2025, including participation in the executive committee and has chaired and been a member of several key campus committees. He also regularly volunteers to deliver customized training workshops, such as public speaking, presentation skills, preparing for thesis defense, time management and email writing, for both graduate and undergraduate students.

Outside academia, Boutros is a professional trainer and consultant, providing workshops and guidance to various business organizations, including the National Training Academy (Egyptian Presidency) and the Egyptian Banking Institute (Central Bank). His training programs focus on business communication (oral and written), public speaking and time management.
