Brief Biography

Mohab Anis is a professor of electronics and communications engineering at The American University in Cairo. Anis received the BSc degree (with honors) in electronics and communication engineering from Cairo University, Cairo, Egypt, in 1997 and the MASc and PhD degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Waterloo, Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, in 1999 and 2003, respectively. He is currently an associate professor at the  Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Waterloo, and is currently on leave from the University of Waterloo where he is a tenured associate professor. He is the co-founder of Spry Design Automation.

Anis is on the editorial board of the IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems-II, Microelectronics Journal, Journal of Circuits, Systems and Computers, and ASP Journal of Low Power Electronics. He is also the TPC-Chair of IEEE International Conference on Microelectronics (2007-2009), and has been a member of the program committee for several IEEE conferences.

He was awarded the 2009 Early Research Award from the Ministry of Research and Innovation, Canada, the 2004 Douglas R. Colton Medal for Research Excellence, (in recognition of excellence in research leading to new understanding and novel developments in Microsystems in Canada), and the 2002 International Low-Power Design Prize.

Anis is a strong advocate of technology transfer between academia and industry and promoting innovation within corporations. Anis also holds an MBA with concentration in entrepreneurship and innovation and a masters of sciences with concentration in management of technology.

  • Anis has authored and coauthored over 80 articles in ACM/IEEE journals and conferences and is the author of the books "Multi-Threshold CMOS Digital Circuits-Managing Leakage Power (Kluwer, 2003) and "Low-Power Design of Nanometer FPGAs: Architecture and EDA" (Morgan Kaufmann, 2009).

Research Interest

Integrated circuit design and design automation for VLSI systems in the deep sub micrometer regime management of technological innovation.
