Islam Azzam is an associate professor and head of finance in the Department of Management at The American University in Cairo (AUC). He teaches courses in finance, corporate finance, investment analysis, international finance and derivatives.

Azzam previously served as a full-time advisor to the chairman of the Capital Market Authority of Egypt and as financial advisor to the chairman of the Mortgage Finance Authority of Egypt. He is currently the financial advisor to the chairman of the General Authority of Free Zones and Investment and CEO of the Private Equities for Developing Small and Medium Enterprises Company. He also owns a financial consulting firm and serves on the boards of several companies listed on the Egyptian Stock Exchange.

He is a member of the American Economic Association and the American Finance Association. Azzam holds a bachelor’s degree from Cairo University, an MA from AUC and an MA and PhD from the University of California, Irvine.
