Institutional Financial Aid

We believe students from all economic and social backgrounds should have the opportunity to attend The American University in Cairo. Finances should not be a barrier to getting a world-class education. AUC has two categories of aid: merit and need-based. While both recognize the highest achieving applicants, the first type is awarded entirely on the basis of merit and the other on financial need as well as merit. Private scholarships from sponsors, endowments and donors are also available. In 2014 - 2015, AUC committed over LE 130 million in financial aid (assistance) to our students.

We understand that funding a college education takes careful planning and often requires tapping a variety of financial resources. We are here to help you determine whether you qualify for aid, assist you in applying for aid and, finally, make sure you receive it.

Undergraduated Institutional Financial Aid Awards

Aid Duration and Renewal

Institutional financial aid awards are usually for one academic year. You must apply every year if you continue to demonstrate financial need.

Maintainability

To remain eligible for the financial aid award, undergraduate students must meet the following academic criteria:

  1. Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or above
  2. Maintain full-time status (12 credit hours per semester or above); unless you’re a graduating senior and it’s your last semester. In this case, the financial aid award will be calculated in proportion with the number of your registered credits.

Summer and Winter Financial Aid

No financial aid award is available for the summer and winter sessions.

Reviewing Awards

If you have received a financial aid award but have encountered changes in your financial situation and wish to have your award amount reviewed, you must submit a new online financial aid application with supporting documents proving the change in your financial situation before the deadline.
