The Academic Advising Center guides undeclared students from the moment they join AUC until the declaration of their majors. The adviser is the first person the student meets on his or her new academic journey at AUC. Advisers work hard to support undeclared students in making the best possible use of the University’s academic resources.

What You Need to Know as a Freshman

English Requirement
Academic English for the Liberal Arts (English 0210) is a valuable course that aims to improve students’ reading, writing, and study skills in order to help them cope more confidently with freshman-level work.

The Core Curriculum
The Core Curriculum is the foundation of every AUC student’s education — the heart of the liberal arts experience. It includes courses in writing, language, and information literacy; philosophic and scientific thinking; Arab history, literature, and society; and foundational classes in the natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities.

Programs
You have a broad range of options when pursuing your AUC degree. Explore more than 35 undergraduate majors across a variety of disciplines. You can also further enrich your studies with a minor. Choose from over 40 minors to supplement your major program.

Track Your Academic Progress Through Your Degree Works
Degree Works is a tool that helps you view your academic progress so far, helping you find your course requirements, view your academic standing, and your GPA. Through Degree Works, you can also view the plan set for you by your advisors to help you stay on track. Your academic advisor creates a plan to help you know what courses you are recommended to register for your upcoming semesters.

Transfer Credits
Before taking any courses for transfer credit, visit the transfer credit unit in the Office of the Registrar.

International Academic Advising
The Office of International Programs and Services (IPSO) is responsible for academic advising and registration for incoming study abroad, non-degree undergraduate and graduate international students. IPSO also assists these students with follow-up sessions during the drop/add period and throughout the semester.
