Brief Biography

Kamal AlEkhanwy is currently a faculty member in the capacity of a senior instructor of Arabic as a Foreign/Second Language (AFL/ASL) and the director of Arabic Language Intensive Program (ALIN) and Arabic Language Classes (ALNG) at the Department of Arabic Language Instruction (ALI).

AlEkhanwy is strongly committed to the enhancement of the AFL/ASL learning experience through the use of innovative pedagogical methods and the introduction of Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) and culture into the language classroom. In addition to his extensive experience in teaching all levels of Arabic language to a wide range of nationalities, he also teaches content-based courses designed and oriented to target critical thinking and Egyptian culture in film.

Prior to his transition to the ALI department, AlEkhnawy taught Arabic to AFL/ASL students at Cairo American College in the world languages department where he also had the opportunity to prepare Arabic language students to sit for their IB exams at both the Ab Initio and L2 levels. He also worked as director of studies and general manager of Afnan Language center, where he designed the MSA and ECA curriculum and also provided workshops to Arabic teachers on teaching methodology.

AlEkhanwy has spent a considerable amount of time in the Middle East, researching and gaining knowledge and experience in the field of Teaching Arabic as a Foreign Language (TAFL) and intellectual thinking.
