Brief Biography

Between the end of 1978 and end of 1984, Hoda Hosny worked and studied in California in the United States. She started her university teaching career in UC Davis California (Jan. 1981- Dec.1984). Upon her return to Egypt in early 1985, she joined the Center for Training and Management Development (CTMD) project in the Egyptian Cabinet office (1985-1988) as an IT specialist before her appointment as the IT Consultant and Unit Manager at the Cairo Regional Centre for International Commercial Arbitration (1988- 2012). She has also been teaching and/or supervising graduate (M.Sc and Ph.D) research in the computer science program at The American University in Cairo (1985- present) and in the MICT program (2008-present).

Between 2003 and 2013, she was invited to lecture on software engineering at several universities in Egypt, namely Ain Shams University (the Faculty of Computer and Information Sciences), Cairo University (the Faculty of Computers and Information), the German University in Cairo (Department of Computer Science) and Misr International University (Faculty of Computer Science).

In the last 30 years, she has supervised and reviewed a number of undergraduate student projects, independent studies and, most recently, MSc and PhD theses. She also served as an examiner in more than 20 master'ss and PhD theses committees in computer science at AUC and three other universities. She developed training material and delivered more than 40 industry courses and workshops at a number of Egyptian government and public organizations such as the CTMD project (1985-1988), the Egyptian Ministry of Interior (1996-1997), the Banking Institute (2001-2002) and the Software Engineering Competence Center (SECC) at the Egyptian Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (2001-2011).

Hosny is the author and co-author of nearly 60 publications (scientific papers and articles) in international conferences and journals, as well as articles in the Ahram daily newspaper and in the Egypt SPIN newsletters. In the last twenty years, she refereed papers for more than 30 international conferences and journals on topics such as software engineering, modeling, performance evaluation, simulation, information systems and innovative methods in computer science education. She has attended a number of conferences inside and outside of Egypt, and has participated in the organization of more than 20 conferences, seminars and workshops and is often invited to lecture at national/international professional gatherings.

Hosny received a number of awards/certificates of recognition from her students, from the president of AUC, from the Egyptian Minister of Communications and Information Technology, from the ACM Programming Contest Director (for participating as a Judge in each of the 2001 and 2002 ACM Arab and North African Regional Programming Contests) and from Misr International University.

She is an active member of the ACM international professional society and its Special Interest Group in Computer Science Education (SIGCSE), the Egyptian Software Process Improvement Network (SPIN), the Steering Committee of the SPI (Software Process Improvement) Program for SMEs and has recently joined the Board of Trustees of the Software Engineering Competence Center.
