Brief Biography

Ahmed Hassanein is an assistant professor at The American University in Cairo (AUC), where he serves a joint appointment between the Department of Construction and Architectural Engineering at the School of Sciences and Engineering and the Department of Management at the School of Business. Prior to joining AUC, Hassanein worked as a project control manager of a major real estate development firm operating in Africa, Central and South Asia and Western Europe.

Hassanein has over 25 years of experience in both academia and industry, in both Egypt and North America. While working in industry, Hassanein's ties with academia were never severed, as he served as an adjunct professor in Nile University and working closely with AUC’s Gerhart Center for Philanthropy and Civic Engagement as a senior consultant for sustainability in the construction industry, promoting sustainable construction methods and practices throughout the Middle East. During that time, Hassanein was also teaching Executive Education courses in the AUC’s International Executive Education Institute, where he promoted social responsibility of construction practitioners.

Hassanein is the founder and CEO of Mabani Sustainable Solutions, a consulting firm that aims to provide low-cost sustainable housing communities tailored to the needs of low income groups in the Middle East and Africa.

He holds a BSc in civil engineering from Cairo University, a MSc from AUC, a MEng from McMaster University, Hamilton, Canada and a PhD in construction management from Concordia University, Montréal, Canada.
