Data Privacy FAQs
Personal data refers to any information that can identify you, directly or indirectly. This includes your name, email, phone number, student ID or staff/faculty ID, academic records, payroll details, photos, and more. Sensitive data includes health records, religion, race or ethnicity.
AUC does not collect unnecessary data or use it for unrelated purposes. AUC collects personal data only for legitimate university purposes, such as academic administration, payroll, campus security, IT services, research participation, and all student services and facilities.
We collect data from your applications, any additional information you provide, your interactions with the University and from third parties like government agencies or vendors. Your data is used for administration, student support, for improving our services and is kept secure in line with privacy laws.
AUC implements administrative and technical safeguards to prevent unauthorized access, disclosure, or misuse. This includes strong passwords, encryption, secure IT systems, and controlled/monitored access to sensitive information.
You are responsible for keeping your login details, passwords, and personal devices secure, only sharing information with authorized University channels, and reporting any suspected data breaches or misuse. You should also handle other people’s data respectfully and only use it for legitimate, approved purposes.
AUC shares personal data only when necessary to carry out business processes or for legitimate purposes, always under strict confidentiality agreements or as required by law. AUC does not sell your data to any entity.
Yes, but only when it is necessary to fulfill University business operations. For example, your student ID may be shared with IT for system access or with student affairs for services you requested. All internal sharing follows strict confidentiality rules.
We only share data with external parties if:
- It is legally required (e.g. government reporting).
- You have given explicit consent.
- The external service is authorized to perform tasks on AUC’s behalf (e.g. payroll processors, cloud service providers) under strict data protection agreements.
Report immediately to the DPO at dpo@aucegypt.edu. AUC investigates all cases of potential unauthorized sharing and takes corrective action.
