Wifi Network Renovation
AUC wireless network provides wireless network connectivity for all AUC systems and users, including students, faculty, staff, alumni and guests. The aim of the project is to enhance the overall end-user network experience, using up-to-date wireless network technology to provide stable, high-speed network services on campus, with proper wifi coverage and performance.
With the current wave of digital transformation, there is an increasing demand for network connectivity to a wide variety of end-user devices, gadgets and systems, and an increasing dependency on the availability of the reliable, high-speed network for all user devices on Campus, used for both research and leisure. Modern digital systems take the requirements on the wireless network technology to a new horizon, to support end-user demands for high data rate connectivity, device mobility, as well as other support services like IoT connectivity, location tracking, push notifications and way-finding features. The wifi network renovation project aims to transform Campus wireless technology from 802.11n to 802.11ac wave 2, and the latest 802.11ax standards, to support higher network data rates, and a wider multitude of end-user applications including faster Internet browsing, video streaming and file download. The new network will allow users to operate on the wider and more stable 5GHz frequency band, instead of the 2.4GHz band, improving network stability and the overall end-user network experience. The number of wireless access points will also increase by 20% to improve network coverage, and support higher users’ capacity and device density.
