Employment Policies

General Expectations and Responsibilities

It is the responsibility of the employee to perform in person and to the best of his or her ability, the duties outlined in the job description, as well as other duties related to the job as assigned by the immediate supervisor. Employees must abide by the general rules and regulations of the University, as well as the instructions and directives issued by their direct supervisors or other AUC authorized persons.


General Conduct and Ethics Code

Support staff members shall conduct themselves at all times in a manner befitting their position. They shall avoid any action and, in particular, any kind of public pronouncement or conduct which may adversely affect the University or which may reflect upon their standing as impartial employees of an educational and research institution.

All employees should approach work with a positive, helpful attitude, in the understanding that as a team player one can help achieve the University’s goals to the benefit of all members. If any employee has a problem with the behavior or attitude of another team member in any department, then a meeting should be arranged with their immediate supervisor to solve the problem. The Code of Academic and Professional Ethics applies to all employees.


Management and staff members must

  • Understand and comply with the AUC Code of Academic and Professional Ethics
  • Uphold the highest standards of academic integrity in all work at AUC
  • Uphold the highest standards of academic integrity by refusing to tolerate violations of the AUC code of ethics
  • Report any suspected violation of the code to the appropriate faculty, administrator or student judicial board member
  • Foster an atmosphere of academic integrity among colleagues, faculty and students
  • Respect the rights of others, which include the obligation to refrain from conduct that violates or adversely affects the rights of other members of the AUC community
  • Understand that they will be subject to penalties should they commit any violation of the AUC Code of Academic and Professional Ethics
  • Take necessary steps to apply the AUC Code of Academic and Professional Ethics to the circumstances of their work at AUC


These steps may include (but are not limited to)

  1. Understanding one’s role in AUC and holding oneself fully accountable for it
  2. Ensuring that all decisions are made in the University’s interest
  3. Using the University facilities, resources, time and services appropriately and only for University purposes
  4. Applying the University policies, procedures and services consistently at all times
  5. Maintaining the security, confidentiality and privacy of records for information under one’s disposal and not using it for one’s interest or personal gain
  6. Reporting accurately and transparently
  7. Taking practical measures during any activity the staff member is responsible for to create an atmosphere of mutual trust any person not abiding by the ethics regulations will be severely dealt with

Upon appointment, all employees are requested to sign the Code of Academic Ethics in Arabic or English.



All employees are expected to maintain a level of dress and personal appearance appropriate to their position and working environment, taking into consideration safety and personal hygiene where applicable. For example, staff members working with machinery, chemicals or food, specifically, should take into consideration the mentioned factors. 


Identification Cards and Business Cards

Identification cards (ID) are issued to all personnel. Employees will receive ID cards after all legal requirements regarding the hiring of a member of staff have been fulfilled.

Identification cards permit holders to:

  • Enter the AUC premises
  • Use the AUC Library facilities

AUC ID cards are the property of AUC and must be returned upon the completion of employment.

Business card applications must be approved by the administrative director/department chair prior to being sent to the Office of Human Resources to verify the position and title before being sent to print.


Email Accounts

The Office of Human Resources has the sole authority to create email addresses for the new appointees according to the set standards agreed upon. Email addresses are created for business purposes only and staff members should have other emails for their personal communication. In case of separation, the employee’s business email will be closed on the effective date of separation. Email accounts for AUC Alumni are granted for life. Please refer to the policies for IT use at AUC on webmail.aucegypt.edu.


Employment Forms

Employees are required to fill the following forms or information upon appointment:

  1. Home Address and phone number
  2. Mobile number
  3. Marital status
  4. Acquiring a resident card (green card)

In case of change of any of the above, he or she is required to report this to the Office of Human Resources within two weeks. Any person who fails to notify the University of status changes will be in violation of the policy and may be disciplined according to the legal disciplinary system.


Employment Channels

The University, solely through the Office of Human Resource's employment channels and procedures, makes employment commitments for local support staff members. Any employment, regular or temporary, will not be effective unless it goes through these channels and procedures. No other commitment for employment or re-employment, either orally or in writing, is binding to the University. This stipulation is limited to support staff members locally employed, as presidential appointments pertaining to senior administrators, whether local or relocated, are made directly by the president. Senior administrators, in turn, are authorized to sign employment contracts for their relocated managers in consultation with the human resources office.
