1. What should I do to visit any of the Medical Services Department's physicians?

Any patient visiting the AUC Medical Services Department has to register his/her name and indicate whether he/she is faculty, staff, student or custodian. Then he/she will be transferred by the receptionist to the physician of their choice or the physician who is available. AUC staff members visiting the Medical Services Department are supposed to bring a referral to the Medical Services Department signed by their department head.

2. Can I take an appointment to see a physician before coming to the Medical Services Department?

Yes. AUC medical services are available on both walk-in and appointment basis. Appointments can be made by calling ext. 3907 / 3916 / 3910. (off-campus dial 2615).

4. What are the working hours of the Medical Services Department at the hostel?

The Medical Services clinic at Zamalek's hostel is open from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Saturdays, Mondays and Wednesdays.

5. What should I do if I need a prescription re-fill or need to dispense a prescribed medication?

You have to have your prescription approved and written on an AUC prescription form signed by any of the AUC Medical Services physicians and stamped by the clinic's stamp. Only then, can you dispense medication from the internal pharmacy.

6. What about the confidentiality of my medical records at the AUC Medical Services Department?

All information regarding the health of any patient is considered confidential whether the patient is faculty, staff, student or custodian. However, the university reserves the right to use information about the health status of any employee in making critical decisions that include:

  • Whether the employee can perform the essential requirements of the job in the foreseeable future
  • Whether employment should be extended beyond the normal retirement age
  • Decisions of the Medical Committee
  • Making job modifications

7. I am a student and need to know what to do in order to have my medical excuse approved by the AUC Medical Services Department?

Students who feel sick while at university can stop by the Medical Services Department in order to be examined by an AUC physician and be granted an official medical excuse if needed. In addition, students who are unable to attend classes due to illness are requested to bring a medical certificate signed by their treating physician to the Medical Services Department no later than one week after the date of their absence in order to get the clinic's approval. The approved excuse is then returned to the student to be given to the concerned professors. It is then up to the professor to either accept or refuse the excuse. 8. Can I get my vaccine shots at the AUC Medical Services Department?

Yes, you can. Vaccination service is available at the Medical Services Department to all AUC members on an appointment basis. Vaccines can be ordered through the AUC Medical Services Department and are paid for in cash.

 

The Medical Services Department on the New Cairo campus are open weekdays from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm. A physician and nurse will also be available for emergencies after hours. Clinic working hours change during the months of Ramadan and August. View all AUC Medical Clinic hours.
