Mechanical Engineer I, Office of Planning, Design and Construction (10001884 )

Reports to: Assistant Director for Construction 

Purpose: Perform duties necessary to ensure availability of all mechanical trades to all AUC buildings, parking lots and service areas. Exercise overall responsibility for inspecting, planning, programming and implementing of the new projects modifications related to mechanical program of the campus and other assigned facilities. Supervise tradesmen of other crafts and directs, monitors and approves the actions, performance and/or products of contractors and vendors. 

Principal Accountabilities: 

  • Help in the designs modifications to existing systems to accommodate new equipment: designs new systems for areas being renovated
  • Select and supervise outside consultants and contractors
  • Recommend energy/water efficient programs
  • Maintain and submit reports of all related aspects to ensure high performance of the mechanical functions for the university
  • Develop estimate of costs to support requests for completion of a mechanical service or project
  • Work with consulting engineering firms in preparation of contract documents related to mechanical systems
  • Monitor the inventory and safe usage of equipment and tools assigned to the electrical department to use what is available in new modifications/projects
  • Formulate plans specifications to be used in preparation of the bids for acquiring services, contracts and items purchased
  • Evaluate available mechanical products, standardizes products and hardware to achieve economy
  • Submit purchase requisitions in accordance with established mechanical schedules to ensure ready availability of materials, supplies and equipment required
  • Coordinate with departments to ensure availability of facilities and/or areas to be repaired or installed and minimizes hindrance to ongoing operations
  • Responsible for coordination of special projects with outside mechanical contractors
  • Analyze existing building systems for the purpose of improving operating efficiency
  • Perform testing, balance and adjust required for energy analysis in buildings and inspects, clean, calibrate, lubricate, repair and replace, control and device relative to HVAC systems
  • Perform any other related tasks as assigned


Minimum Education Requirement: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent

Experience: Minimum of seven to nine years of relevant full-time experience


  • Good command of MS Office, AutoCAD, Adobe Photoshop
  • Good command of English and Arabic language
  • Skilled in all areas concerning the construction mechanical industry
  • Knowledge of controls
  • Work in team work
